As a Guaranteed SEO in Houston, I believe part of this misunderstanding is due to all the crap spouted out by self described SEO Guru’s. Some do this because they don’t know any better while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SE Optimization isn’t rocket science folks. It’s as simple as optimizing your website with a few keywords to tell the search engines what your Website is about. Make it easy for the search eninges to determine what your site is about and show them your site is relevant to the term being searched for and they will reward you with higher rankings.
To set the foundation for your website, you should make certain the main keywords are used in the URL if you can arrange it. With everything except the domain names being equal, a web page with your keywords in the domain name will rank higher than one without the keywords contained in the web address.
Next, the you keywords should be used in the Website’s Title. By doing this, you’re helping search engines like Google,Yahoo and MSN determine what the subject of your Website is.
It’s important to make certain keywords are a part of the Title of every page on your site, or at least, you should use some keywords in the title of the page or article. This has the same effect as putting keywords in the Title of your Website in that it helps the search engines come to a conclusion as to what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Plus, the website should be coded in such a manner as to include the Title of each page in a H1 tag. There should only be one H1 tag per page for the best results. Search engines rely a great deal on the H1 to tell them what the page is about and how relevant it is. If your web designer does not know how to do this, find one that does.
If you have that done, it’s crucial that the keywords you want to rank for show up within the page itself. For best results, you should insert the keywords into the first paragraph somewhere and at least once in the last paragraph. A few more times between the first and last paragraph is also a good idea, in summary, just make sure you use them in the first part of the page and again at the end.
Last up, probably the most important thing of SEO actually takes place off your Website. In my opinion, the most important thing in obtaining a higher ranking is backlinks leading back to your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these links back to your site need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the backlinks.
How important are backlinks? I have ranked quite a few Websites that didn’t have the keywords in the URL, plus I can rank one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without targeted links back to your site pointing to the website, {it’s impossible} to to get higher rankings in the search engines for any search phrases that are the least bit in demand.
