SEO in a Decade
The SEO sector is one of the fastest growing industries in IT at the moment. Every big company in the world wants someone to perform SEO on their site to help then with their rankings. SEO is not something that should be taken lightly, I mean if you position your site well in the search engines then you could end up earning a small fortune.
SEO has developed so much over the years and it is only going to get better and better. So what can we expect SEO to be like in around a decade from now? Will it still be here? Let us take a much closer peak.
Over the period of the last few years search engines have been focusing a lot on geo targetting and brands. Search engines have been ranking websites mainly on backlinks throughout the world wide web, a link you get from another site basically counts as a friendly vote towards your own website, the higher volume of votes you get the higher you will appear for specific searches, there is actually a lot more science behind it, but this is the basic analysis. So some of the things that search engines may look at expanding on in the future is offsite aspects.
As we all know the brand factor has kicked in a huge amount, so instead of just counting links/votes from the actual web, Google may also use other mediums to see how successful and branded a company is offsite, whether this be radio, news paper coverage or TV it will all be used as a ranking factor. But the downside of this will be that sole online companies will have to invest in offline promotion.
I can also see search engines becoming much more advanced and being able to analyse linking patterns a lot more in depth. Finally we may even begin to see a new breed of search engines come to life that display real time results.
