Prudent, hot comedy-tirade is crisp and spontaneous; a notable debut for author-director Krueger. Cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Aieksa Palladina, Mary Kay Place, Paul Guilfayle, Glenn Fitzgerald, and Novella Nelson. (97 minutes, 1996)

Ray: Recounts the life of blues great Ray Charles. Going blind at the age of seven, his mother taught him to be independent despite his handicap. Although he becomes a famous and successful musician, he still has a troubled life.

Haiku Tunnel: Tiny, fitfully entertaining film in reference to a provisional office employee and the battle between “temps” and “perms.” Leading performer-controller Josh additionally co-wrote the screenplay. Cast includes Josh Kornbluth, Warren Keith, Helen Shumaker, Amy Resnick, Brian Thorstenson, Sarah Overman, and Harry Shearer. (90 minutes, 2001)

Originally beaming story of man teenager’s identity emergency gets to be ponderous while it turns into a mom -child soap opera with incestuous implications. Cinematically stimulating, albeit, with a bravura finale. Cast includes Pedro Almodovar, Liberto Rabal, Francesca Neri, Javier Bardem, Angela Molina, Jose Sancho, and Penelope Cruz. Thieves: Arrogant, uninteresting adaptation of Herb Gardner’s play in regards to insane couple trying to recollect their innocence in a corrupt N.Y.C.
