The Misconceptions Of Anime Fans
People have many impressions of anime fans and their craft. The main one that has stuck most often is that they are generally nerds with little or no social ability to interact with others. However, while many might dismiss them as such, anime fans do not approve of such opinions.
That said, is there any truth to such beliefs? Anime fans would definitely protect their reputation and say that they have been much maligned. The general public laugh and ridicule them for their passion in this way, but it is probable that their prejudices are unfounded.
Firstly, anime is no different from movies, books, television programs or even music. They are all basically for entertainment. Unfortunately, anime is also considered to be nothing more than cartoons, something that childrens love. Yet, we need to look beyond this, at the fact that anime plots do feature more grown up concerns.
Next, people who love anime are no different from those who enjoy getting their thrills from action movies. The latter exhibit the same passion when discussing their favorite movies or action sequences. However, they are never considered to be ‘nerdy’ in behavior.
Not everything that is handled in anime series or films are for children. There are many serious series too that explore subject matter more often associated with adults, such as politics, love and even ironic satire. They can be viewed as animated forms of books or documentaries in such genres.
Many also associate nerds with behavior that hints of being someone who has hardly been exposed to the practical world of ours. For those who have had experience interacting and dealing with people working in the anime industry, most of them do not exhibit traits of such form.
Unfortunately, most people simply enjoy forming stereotypes of anime and its fans. It is the same attitude that is often shown to other genres. Businessmen read a lot of investment books, but are they considered bookworms?
Most anime fans do not pay heed to such biasness though. They prefer to concern themselves with what they love instead, and there is much to indulge in when it comes to anime. Their willingness to share their passion with others will also indirectly help to expose the real essence of their art with the rest of the world.
