Finding Ways to Make Snow Shovels Better

by Douglas Cordell

Depending on how you look at it, the winter season can either be a heartwarming, cozy holiday or a cold, lonely time that brings with it unwelcome chores. In most cases, kids equate winter with the holidays; gifts, Santa Claus, snowmen on the front lawn, snowball fights and just pure enjoyment of the white snow. Adults, on the other hand, see the snow as a very costly thing; buying gifts, purchasing special winter equipment, needing warmer clothes, heating up the house, and shoveling away the snow from the paths and driveways.

Man has invented the snow shovel early on to help him get rid of the piled up snow all around. Heavy snowfall brings with it tons of snow, and he would have to clear a path by bending over and lifting shovel-fulls of snow. It was a tedious task, but it saved us the trouble of sloshing through snow from point A to point B.

Shoveling, unfortunately, comes with a few consequences. When you bend over and scoop up an amount of snow, you run the risk of back pain and injury if you do it incorrectly. And, as it also involves a lot of effort and energy in a very cold climate, it will dangerously impede your blood circulation. There have not been a few instances that heart attacks happened while shoveling snow.

These are the primary problems that the snow shovel industry would want to address. As it stands, shoveling is still the cheapest option when it comes to clearing your snow; therefore, improvements on the snow design are in order. And, as I am glad to report, these problems have been addressed and worked on.

So check out the best snow shovel innovations in the last few years. You’ll be surprised at how the shovel concept has been retained, and yet it feels like a different tool in your hand altogether. With this new shovel, notice how snow shoveling will change from an irritating chore to a meditative morning ritual during the holidays.
