Fixing the Roof

I have had a number of new experiences with the purchase of my new home.  You see, up to that point in my life, I had never done any sort of maintenance on a house at all, and all of a sudden, it was my responsibility.

I did have one advantage though - my father-in-law was a carpenter, and he offered to help me to learn how to do maintenance on my own home.  My first task was to tackle the roof and fix the cedar shakes that were worn out.

The first thing that he suggested was that I make sure to use the proper safety harness when working on the roof.  He brought fall protection equipment with him for me to use so that I wouldn’t fall off the roof and risk becoming seriously injured.

Once I had taken all of the precautions, it was time to get up on the roof and work.  I wasn’t prepared for the amount of labor that I would do, and by the end of the day, I was very tired, but I learned something new which made it all worthwhile.
