I Guess They Knew Best

When I was a kid my parents used to tell me about child trust funds and how they were going to make sure I had a good future. I always resented the way that they made me give them half of my babysitting money to put away for college, stating that I needed to learn to save money at a young age.

When I was old enough to get a real summer job, it was the same thing. I had to give them half of my earnings to put away for college. I was sure that I could go to college for the rest of my life on all that money they had taken away from me.

As an adult, I realize exactly how much that they, too, had to sacrifice to put away fro me. I did have more than enough for college, so when I was finished college, I bought a house. Because of what my parents taught me, I will probably never be in debt in my life. Maybe they were actually smarter than I thought they were.
