Remember When?

Remember when it wasn’t politically incorrect to play cowboys and Indians? When Indian food was the same as what cowboys ate? When you made up your own Indian recipes, that consisted of marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers?

Remember when playing house had no connotations of sex? When boys and girls thought each other had cooties until well into fifth grade? When a girl was considered “fast” if she allowed a kiss goodnight on the first date?

Remember when families sang songs in the car, even when dad was tone deaf? When there weren’t feature-length movies to pass the time on long car trips? When video game consoles separate headphone jacks weren’t built into a car’s back seat?

Remember when you left home and no one could get a hold of you until you got back home, hours or days later? When you didn’t have an answering machine. When you shared the same phone line with seven other families who could listen in, if they were nosy?

I remember, and I while I’m glad for progress in some areas, I’m not sure about the rest…
