Preparing for the Worst
I have polycystic ovary syndrome and when I was getting married, I worried that this would affect my ability to have children. I discussed it with my future husband, who wanted to be a dad more than anything he had ever wanted in his life. I saw him with his nieces and nephews and I knew that it would be terrible if he could never have children of his own.
This spurred me to make an appointment to go and talk to my gynecologist about PCOS and miscarriage. He assured me that there was no reason that I could not have a healthy pregnancy and told me about some of the things that I could do to ensure that this happened. I changed my diet that very day, eating mostly organic foods and making sure that I got lots of nutrients.
We decided that we would try to have a family right away, as we knew there could be complications. We were blessed, nine months later, with the birth of healthy twin boys and I was beaming with pride at the fact that I was able to give my husband the greatest gift he could ever receive.
