How We Came to Be
I had never traveled out of the country before, so I had no idea of what was involved in planning an overseas trip. It was a rather spontaneous decision. My boyfriend, Evan was transferred to Kenya for a year and when he left, I had no intentions of traveling there. I figured we would have a phone and email relationship for a year and then he would be home.
Yeah right!
In fact, I think he was only gone for two days before I realized that I was madly in love with him and could certainly not spend a whole year away from him. I immediately visited a travel agency and gave notice to my boss, who said my job would be waiting for me when I came back in a year.
I got some special immunizations and ensured that I had health insurance to cover me while I was over there, bought a plane ticket and said goodbye to my family and friends. This all took about two days and the next thing I knew, I was on a plane to Africa.
Boy was Evan surprised to see me. He said the moment he saw me walk into his office was the moment he knew that he would spend the rest of his life with me.
