A Growing Problem for Colleges
Back when I was enrolled in college there were few problems that colleges had to face in terms of academic morality. Sure, there were students that copied assignments, or cheated on exams, but those were pretty easy incidents to catch.
What the real problem is now days is the number of students that order essays online and present them as their own work. Sure, the workload of some classes is a little excessive, but that does not mean that you can just outsource your college assignments.
This problem is not just limited to one aspect of the colleges either. You can find purchased college application essays and MBA essays. Should the student get away with their submitted assignments, it could have a small or large effect on their knowledge base as they leave college.
But, if the student is caught submitting purchased assignments, if they are lucky, they are reprimanded and worst case, they are expelled.
Many techniques have been created to check the submitted essays and assignments to see if they have been purchased, but these methods are not effective enough to catch them all. It will be interesting how colleges will deal with this problem in the future as more graduates leave college having submitted purchased assignments.
