Settling My Uncle’s Estate
As executor of my Uncle’s will, I was in charge of the living trust of his estate. I needed to sell his property and make sure that it was divided equally between his three children. I did my best in the situation, but it is not something that I would undertake again, as it did cause some hard feelings between my cousins and me.
The reason he decided to go with the living trust was to try and avoid probate and in the end, he probably made a good decision, but it still had its headaches and hassles involved. I did the best job I could and I don’t think that my cousins hold anything against me now, but emotions are high at the death of a parent, and I bore the brunt of it.
The easiest part was that he had a charitable trust set up and no one disputed this. His children all agreed that their father was a great and giving man who had a big heart, and I think they would have been rather disappointed to learn that he never left anything to charity.
