Chosen to Speak at my Brother’s Wedding
My brother just asked me to be his best man at his wedding. Now how could I turn that up? Seriously, it only took me a split second to say yes. I have never been a best man before, so I had to ask what my responsibilities were. Almost everything was a no-brainer until we got to the part about a speech. Specifically, I was to make a wedding speech.
Now those of you out there who know me, I do quite enjoy speaking in public. In fact, I try to do some public speaking at least once a month - either by doing a presentation of some sort, or attending a local Toastmasters event.
Thing is, the speaking part of the speech didn’t really bother me. What my problem was is I had no idea how wedding toasts were organized - I have never made one before.
I found a site online about wedding toasts and speeches and downloaded some sample toasts. I figured that if I had some outlines, I could have a better idea about the structure of a toast and write it from there.
At this point I have it mostly fleshed out - but it just needs some tweaking. I do have a couple of months to write it yet, but I like to start on things early.
