Resume Writer’s Block: Solutions

I have had quite a few different jobs over the course of my life.  Now pretty much all of these jobs required a resume to get the job interview.  Quite often I would end up with writer’s block while trying to complete my resume.  Below I will share some tips with you on what I have found works best for me to complete my resume in the shortest time as possible.

First I collect all the information I need on the resume - even though to some of you, this may seem a little tedious - do it.  This way I can make sure I have all the pertinent information that I require to do the resume writing.  I then take this information and make a rough draft of what it is going to look like - it doesn’t have to be pretty, but it is there to give you an idea.

Next I go online to print off at least five resume samples that would be used to apply for the position I am looking for.  I suggest that you take the samples from different websites so that I can get a broad spectrum of writing styles.  I look them over, pick out the sections I like and cut them out.  I tape them to my draft resume for reference for when I type it out.

I take the draft resume over to the computer and start typing it in.  I combine elements from my draft and the samples I taped to it to create the final product.  Before I print it out, I go over my cheat sheet of resume writing tips to ensure I incorporated everything I needed to make a winner.

I print the resume off and get three people to give me their opinion as well as proof read it.  I edit it as required, then print out the final draft.  That’s it.  You will find if you follow my system above, that you will write great resumes without facing the dreaded writer’s block - give it a try and you will see what I mean.
